Design of Hope

MINT Museum of Toys, in conjunction with Singapore Design Week 2019, is proud to present ‘Design of Hope’, exhibiting one of the largest Door of Hope dolls in the world as well as giving social support to the Hathay Bunano mission. Come experience how design can impact the lives of the less fortunate with exclusive activities available only during this yearly design fest!

Programme

Nearly 200 years old and crafted painstakingly by destitute young Chinese girls, the Door of Hope Mission Dolls represent the pristine workmanship and handiwork of the abandoned girls during 19th century China who were rescued by the Door of Hope Mission.

Come discover the skills of the Door of Hope Mission girls, from knitting, carving, painting, and embroidery. These dolls reflect their heritage during 19th century China and represent the various classes of people during that time. Experience a journey of rediscovery of these culture rich dolls, from the bridegroom dressed in a robe adorned by Mandarin Squares to the rice farmer dressed in a straw dress. See them only at MINT Museum of Toys.

Toys can be more than just playthings! Be involved in the design process by showcasing your creativity with Pebblechild crochet dolls. These DIY kits will be available for purchase only during this festival, and the proceeds will touch the lives of Bangladeshi women through the Hathay Bunano movement. Participants will be able to decorate their own dolls to their preference using the materials provided in the kit. Every Pebblechild crochet doll is hand-knitted and provides Bangladeshi women with dignified employment, improving their quality of life. Support them at a specially curated section this Singapore Design Week only at MINT Museum of Toys!
