Make & Play – Children’s Season

It is that time of the year again at MINT Museum of Toys! We invite all parents and children to Make & Play at MINT Museum, where little ones will learn about their parents’ childhood experiences and memories. Through a specially curated tour and workshop, families will learn basic toy-making techniques such as paper crafting and clay modelling, and be equipped with the skills to reinvent everyday materials into their own playthings.

While most activities prepare children for the future, MINT Museum of Toys brings you on a journey of rediscovery, making history come alive through everyone’s favourite medium, toys.

Programmes available are as follows:

1) Age of Superheroes

Batman, Ultraman and Superman are superheroes with enduring appeal that continue to be popular today. Take a tour of the museum’s collection and see how these toys have evolved over the decades, through changes in materials, colours and designs. After the tour, your little ones will get to express their ‘superpowers’ by moulding their own superhero with clay!

2) Doll it up!

Mickey Mouse, Barbie and G.I Joe are much-loved toys with fans of all ages from around the world. This tour of the museum’s collection will show you how the designs of these toys appealed to different audiences, and their influences and impacts on different markets. Using DIY materials provided, parent and child pairs will work together to decorate and give character to handmade crocheted toys, made by rural women in Bangladesh. These toys give women employment and help support families in Bangladesh. By spreading awareness of causes like these, learn how toys tell a modern-day story and are more than playthings.

3) Gigan-tour

Introducing Gigantor, the 1960s giant robot comic series that many grandparents and parents today might have grown up with. A tour of the museum will present Gigantor in its various vintage forms (as a tin wind-up toy, vinyl figurine and die-cast metal toy) and show how it has influenced today’s robot characters on the big screen. This will be followed by a robot paper craft workshop, where children will get to unleash their creativity by designing, assembling and decorating their own robot from everyday materials.
