T for Toys!

T is for Technology, Timeline of Toys’ History and a Teacher of Science!

Toys Tour

With Teacher’s Day coming up, let toys be the teachers at MINT Museum of Toys!

Ever played with a toy then wondered what makes it tick? Curious about the science behind toys? Let our Mechanical Moon Robot and Charley Weaver Bartender toys teach you fun science and tech concepts outside of the classroom!

Before Star Wars robots like BB8 and R2D2, there was Robby the Robot, a friendly and helpful robot helper to a crew of human space explorers, that appeared in the 1956 MGM science fiction film Forbidden Planet. Robby inspired many different series of robot toys made in Japan, with different mechanisms – some can move after being wound-up, others need batteries to walk, light up and shake their antenna.

In this tour, learn about the technology behind how these robots work, and also take a look at multifunctional toys – some have as many as six functions in one toy! Discover how developments in science and technology have changed the ways toys are made over the years.
