Back in 公 Kong’s time – Exclusive Dinner Set
Want to relive the dining experience that our 公 Kongs used to have in the 1930s-1960s?
Rediscover some of 公 Kong’s favorite dishes and desserts with the museum’s special dinner set, created in collaboration with Mr Punch Public House. To provide an authentic dining experience, dinner will be served in a three-tiered tiffin carrier, with the following items:
Tier 1 – Fragrant Steamed Rice
Tier 2 – Nyonya Chicken Curry
Made in the traditional way using bone-in chicken simmered in low heat with Nyonya curry paste, curry leaves, cinnamon sticks, star anise, brown sugar and other secret spices, to infuse the curry with the fragrance of herbs, then braised until the meat is soft and tender.
Tier 3 – Cheng Teng
This local dessert is also known as Cheng Tng (清汤), which directly translates to ‘clear soup’. It was a popular thirst-quencher sold in the olden days to coolies who worked down at the quay back in the 1940s. What sets it apart from other rich and creamy desserts like Bubur Cha Cha or Ice Kacang is its light, refreshing taste and ‘cooling’ properties.
The ingredients of this dessert include dried longan, barley, gingko nuts, lotus seeds and Pang Da Hai (胖大海), which are believed to be able to get rid of humidity and excess “heat” from the body.
The Dinner Set also comes with:
Bandung (also known as Sirap Bandung)
This drink is made of evaporated/ condensed milk flavoured with rose cordial syrup, giving it a pleasant pink colour. Its sweet, floral and milky taste makes it an all-time favourite of many Singaporeans & Malaysians!
