The First Animated Movie Star

You don’t have to be a cartoonist to have animation be a big part of your life. Introducing the first animated movie star, Felix, the wonderful cat. The classic cartoon animal-character when you looked into the era: Silent Age of Animation.

The Silent Age of Animation was a period of animation that lasted from the 1900s through the 1920s. “Silent Age” is the earliest age of mainstream animation known to man, lasting from the early 1900s to the late 1920s with the rise of sound technology.

Take a walk through the journey of this wonderful century-old cat with us and learn about the animation techniques involved in creating this first animated movie star.

Get your fingers busy; the perfect STEAM workshop for you who loves animation, art, science and engineering is awaiting! Invented in 1834 by William George Horner, Zoetrope was an early form of motion picture projector that consisted of a drum containing a set of still images, that was turned circularly to create the illusion of motion. Create your animated vintage toy only at Make & Play today!

This month’s Make & Play is one dexterity programme that your hand-eye coordination and fine-motor skills are in for a treat!
