The Greatest Science Fantasy!

“Maybe I’ll go where I can see stars”, “In a galaxy far far away”, “Always in motion is the future”… Do these quotes sound familiar to you? That’s because they are from the most popular science fantasy films ever made! This May, MINT Museum of Toys will be taking you on an epic sci-fi journey through toys made in the image of some of the most iconic space faring films in the history of mankind. Come and take “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” with The Greatest Science Fantasy!

Programme

Go on a toy tour of the greatest science fantasy genre of all time! As a tribute to a world-famous American epic space-opera media franchise, we will showcase our prized collectibles, including key characters, action figures and all the stories that accompany them. Even though the first movie premiered 42 years ago – on 25 May 1977 – we continue to be inspired and astounded by the diversity of its universe, characters and special effects to this day. Keep the force going and see where it all began, here at Make & Play!

This programme may not fall on May the 4th, but it is still a great opportunity for you to get an up-close and personal look at the figurines and collectibles influenced by the film saga that has had a significant impact on popular culture, with references to its fictional universe deeply embedded in everyday life.

The toy company Kenner Products, mentioned in the TV show The Toys That Made Us, produced many of the action figures featured in our tour. Delve into the importance of toy lines in the history of filmmaking. We will also screen the episode on Kenner Products during our Make & Play programme. Discover how a small toy company negotiated a deal with a movie franchise and grew to earn a total of US$14 billion worldwide!

After the tour, head into the workshop, where participants will be making their very own “film-animation” toy called a Zoetrope. With the craft tools provided, turn our MINT collectible action figures into your own movie reel!
